PixelFX
patch-gg/pixelfxReviewed by AI
What it does
pixelfx is a set of 232 pixel art animations (fire, explosions, magic, weather, hits, pickups) written as small pieces of JavaScript instead of drawings. A browser game can import them directly; for Godot, Unity, GameMaker or LÖVE you run a command that writes a sprite sheet PNG plus a JSON description. Any effect can be recoloured with your own palette. It also ships a Claude Code skill so you can ask Claude to find, export or invent effects. It is for people who build games and can run a command; you need Node.js 18 or newer.
How easy it is to install
C · install 1 or 2 tools · Windows
- Windows C
- macOS C
- Linux C
The same on all three systems: install Node.js 18+, fetch the code with `npm i github:patch-gg/pixelfx` or copy the files, then run commands such as `node tools/render.mjs ice/frost-nova --sheet` to get a sprite sheet. The project's own gallery page shows every effect playing in a browser, but to put one in a game you write code or run the export command.

AI review
- Infofont outside the mit license
README: "the Patch Pixel font in `gallery/fonts` is Patch's own and not covered: see NOTICE.md". The effects and code are MIT, that font is not.
AI review
- Infoadapts code from another author
README: "`src/core/sim.js` and the effects that say so at the top adapt his code", from Hugo Duprez's MIT effects at Sprite Fusion, and LICENSE carries both copyright lines ("Copyright (c) 2026 Patch", "Copyright (c) 2026 Hugo Duprez").
AI review
- Infoinstalls a skill that runs commands
README: `/plugin marketplace add patch-gg/pixelfx` then `/plugin install pixelfx@pixelfx`, or copy `skills/pixelfx` into `~/.claude/skills/`. Once installed, the skill tells Claude Code to run the repository's own scripts (`tools/new.mjs`, `tools/render.mjs`, `tools/check.mjs`) on your machine.

What Radar could not check
- Whether the 232 effects really look as good as the montage in the README
- Whether the exported sprite sheets load without changes in Godot, Unity or Phaser
- How much disk the full export to `sheets/` takes, since every effect becomes a PNG
- Whether the Claude Code skill produces usable new effects, which also depends on your Claude subscription
