Penpot

What it does
Penpot is a design and prototyping tool for app and website screens that runs in the browser. Several people can work on the same file at once, and developers can read the SVG, CSS and HTML behind a design, use design tokens, plugins and an API. You can open the company's hosted version with an account, or install it on your own machine or server with Docker, which takes a terminal and some setup. There is a free plan and a paid Enterprise plan for larger organisations.
How easy it is to install
A · download and open · Web
- Linux D
- Web A
The best grade is on the web: the hosted version at design.penpot.app opens in a browser with an account and nothing to install. Running your own copy is grade D, because the documented route is Docker or Kubernetes on a server you set up yourself; none of the 92 releases carries a program file for Windows, Mac or Linux.

- Infono desktop app
The three latest releases (2.18.5, 2.18.4, 2.18.3) are listed with no platform binaries, and the README offers only the hosted service or "Docker, Kubernetes, Elestio or other options". It is a browser tool, not a program you install.

- Infohosted version holds your files
README.md offers "our SAAS" at design.penpot.app as the easy route, so on that route your designs live on the company's servers (Kaleidos). Self-hosting is the alternative the project highlights: "full ownership of your design infrastructure".

- Infopaid tier for some features
README.md: "Penpot Enterprise is our paid plan ... Manage teams and access from a centralized Admin Console, configure advanced permissions, and connect your identity provider through SSO", available for cloud and self-hosted setups.

What Radar could not check
- How well files from Figma or Sketch really import, and what is lost
- The real server size, memory and disk a self-hosted Penpot needs for a team
- What the free hosted plan limits (projects, team members, storage)
- Whether the browser tool stays smooth on very large design files
