TV Detox

What it does
TV Detox is a tiny home screen for Android TV and Google TV, plus a ready-made prompt that asks Claude Code or Codex to walk you through turning off bloatware on the TV. You run short commands from your laptop while the TV is on the same network, after switching on the TV's developer mode. You can also skip the AI and run install.sh yourself. It needs Android's adb tool on the laptop (on Windows, Google's platform-tools plus Git Bash). Apps are turned off, not deleted, and undo.sh puts things back.
How easy it is to install
C · install 1 or 2 tools · Windows
On Windows you have to download Google's platform-tools, use Git Bash, turn on developer mode and debugging on the TV, and run a few shell commands with the TV's IP address.

Risk signals (5)
- Attentioncan break the tv
README warning: "Do it at your own risk. This turns off system apps. A few TVs got stuck at the logo or kept restarting", and for Google TV/Chromecast "the only fix was a factory reset".
AI review
- Attentionturns on remote debugging on the tv
README note: "While USB, Network or Wireless debugging is on, other devices on your network can ask to control the TV." Setup requires turning it on; you have to remember to turn it off afterwards.
AI review
- Infodownloads app at run time
install.sh downloads the app from GitHub when you have not built it: curl -fsSL -o "$APK" https://github.com/Ansub/tv-detox/releases/latest/download/tvhome.apk
AI review
- Infouses an accessibility service
README: the app registers com.ansub.tvhome/.HomeButton as an accessibility service to catch the Home button, and "Play Protect may warn about the app because it has an accessibility service".

What Radar could not check
- Whether it works on your own TV brand and model, since only a few TVs are listed as tested.
- Whether the ready-made tvhome.apk that install.sh downloads was built from the code in this repository.
- How much memory it really frees on your TV, since the numbers in the README are partly from restarting the TV.
- Whether undo.sh puts every change back, especially changes the AI made outside its own list.
