Word Atlas
designfuchen/word-atlasReviewed by AI
What it does
An English vocabulary app for IELTS students. Each of the 7,298 words comes with a drawing, Chinese and English meanings, two example sentences, British and American audio, and exercises; a review planner (FSRS) decides what to show you each day. You open it in a browser, no account needed, and progress stays on your device. The interface and most documentation are in Chinese. The repository is the open base version plus the word dataset; the author's website iterates separately and may have other features. Running the repository version yourself needs Node.js 20+.
How easy it is to install
A · download and open · Web
The web is the only place an end user runs it, and there it is an A: the author's site opens the app in any browser with no install and no account. Only people who want to host their own copy need Node.js 20+ and npm commands, and there are no desktop or mobile builds in the repository.

Risk signals (4)
- Attentionai generated learning content not reviewed
README section '内容来源与局限': the definitions, example sentences and illustrations are produced with generative AI and the voices with ElevenLabs; the content passed automatic structure checks but has '尚未逐条人工审校' (not yet been proofread item by item) and may contain wrong meanings, sentences, pictures or pronunciations.

- Inforepository differs from hosted website
README '版本说明': the repository holds the open base version and the dataset, while the online site '独立迭代,功能与仓库可能不同' (iterates on its own and may differ in features).

What Radar could not check
- Whether the meanings, example sentences and recordings are correct, since they were generated and not proofread one by one
- How much disk space a full clone takes, as the repository ships 7,298 illustrations and 22,905 audio files
- Whether offline caching and the export/restore of your progress work as described
- Whether the announced iOS app will stay free and whether it will match the open version
