Ex-USSR Kinship Research

What it does
This is an instruction pack (an "agent skill") that you copy into Claude Code or Codex. After that you describe your family question and the assistant searches church books, civil, military, deportation and repression records from the former Soviet Union, keeps a log of every search and separates what is proven from what is a guess. The instructions are in Russian but the assistant answers in your language. You need the AI assistant already installed, plus Python 3 for the helper scripts and a Chrome-type browser for the PDF report.
How easy it is to install
C · install 1 or 2 tools · Windows
Installing is one git clone into the assistant's skills folder, but you must already have Claude Code or Codex and Python 3, and the case scripts are run by typing commands in a terminal.

Risk signals (4)
- Attentionagent sends email on your behalf
README.md: "Draft and, when authorized, send focused requests to archives, libraries, universities and museums using available email or official web tools" and "it does not ask again for an already authorized send" — once you authorize it, the assistant can send messages without asking each time.
AI review
- Attentionagent browses and attempts captcha
README.md: "The agent may try an actual CAPTCHA once through normal controls in its internal browser when supported and allowed"; it also browses FamilySearch and GWAR through your existing logged-in session.
AI review
- Infohandles sensitive personal data
README.md mentions deportation, repression, adoption and DNA findings, and asks you to keep case files outside the Git folder; init_case.py refuses to create a case inside the skill folder.

What Radar could not check
- Whether the Python scripts and the PDF builder work on Windows paths and browsers
- Whether the assistant really follows the privacy rules the instructions describe
- Whether using the FamilySearch and GWAR helpers fits those sites' terms of use in your country
- How good the archive and jurisdiction lists are for each of the 15 republics
- What the AI assistant will cost you in tokens for a long research case
